Print of a photo in which a young woman is talking with compassion to another rough sleeping woman of equal age in the centre of the English city of York.
Two young women in the centre of a historic English city. One woman is sitting against a shop front with her ragged possessions. She is obviously not doing well. Then another woman of equal age passes by. She is ready to throw herself into nightlife. But she sees her peer, slows down and stops. Then she kneels and starts a conversation.
“I see you,” she says.
Maybe not in words, but most certainly in her behaviour. That makes her an example to us all, for all those times that we pass by people who have no roofs above their heads.
Not all people who are sleeping rough get this kind of attention, by the way.
