Print of a propaganda slogan by the marketing department of the city of Glasgow that is shouting with huge letters from an office building: “PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW”.
The background colour of the text is pink instead of red. It seems a strange case of cultural appropriation some 30 years after the fall of the iron curtain. If it had been red, the slogan would have done well in former Eastern bloc countries.
Although in the German Democratic Republic, for example, they needed more words per slogan: ‘Steigert die Produktion und verbessert die Qualität’ (1). Or: ‘ALLE KRAFT für das Wohl der Werktätigen für das Glück des Volkes’ (2).
But…this is Glasgow in 2019.
- (Increase production and improve quality)
- (ALL POWER for the work of the working class for happiness of the people’)
